Some Recommendations on Writing a Compare/Contrast Essay

The majority of students are not skillful in expressing themselves in paper writing. If you belong to this category that have problems in formulating their thoughts and putting them into correct words, here you will find a few tips for writing a compare/contrast essay.
1. Defining the differences and similarities of your topic. A compare/contrast essay is a type of academic writing showing a comparison of several ideas. While comparing your subject matter, you will have to define and evaluate the points of differences and similarities between them. You should write a full description of the points you are comparing and then indicate why they are similar/ different in some aspects.
2. Presenting your thesis. As you are composing an academic work, you will have to state clearly your thesis. You need to be sure that you define clearly your subject and choose the focal point of your discussion. You need to remember that a concise and clear thesis is important while writing a compare/contrast essay and note your discussion will revolve about your thesis.
3. Define your approach. While discussing your problem in your essay, you may adopt one of two approaches.
a) In the subject-by-subject approach, you should write about one subject and then discuss this subject completely. Address every subject in separate paragraphs.
b) In the point-by-point approach, you need to discuss the temperature of each season in one paragraph that is followed analogous paragraphs covering activities, temperature, and color. Always keep in mind that in such writing, you should sharply concentrate on your essay’s topic.
