This essay has as similar features with other essay types as differences, which distinguish it from other essay types. The main principle of compare-contrast essay is presentation of similarities and differences of two things, which are subjects of the essay.

The structure of this essay is usual: introduction, main body, and conclusion. But the content of each part can be rather different. In the introduction, it is necessary to present the theme of the essay, idea of the essay and of course two things, events, or personalities that will be compared and contrasted.

As for main body, there are several variants of its writing. It is possible to start with description of the first subject of compare-contrast essay, then pass to the second one and at the end determine they similarities and differences. Other variant - it is possible to begin with similarities, and then continue with differences of two things, or it is possible to begin with differences and finish with similarities.

In the conclusion, you should define the degree of resemblance or difference between two things.
Let’s see on compare-contrast essay on the following example. It is necessary to write compare-contrast essay on the theme dedicate to ice-cream peculiarities in two countries Italy and Turkey. Both these countries are well-known by their tasty desserts and one of these desserts is ice-cream. In Italy, it is called gelato, in Turkey it is dondurma. Both these dishes are considered to be an ice-ream, but they also have differences. Your task is to present similar features of gelato and dondurma, then find out differences between these two types of ice-cream. At then it is necessary to make a conclusion whether these two types of ice-cream are similar or different.
