Ideas for Compare/Contrast Essays
19 05 2008As you can see a compare/contrast essay has two sides: when you compare something and when you contrast something. If you think that comparing and contrasting are alike, then you should better use the dictionary.
- Comparison means finding the things that are common for both subjects under the consideration;
- Contrasting lies in finding the differences in the subjects under the consideration.
So, when you start writing a compare/contrast essay, you should clear up what is more important comparing or contracting.
Of course, the process of writing a compare/contrast essay is not a simple listing the features, which are similar and different in both subjects. Also, during writing this kind of essay, you should demonstrate your abilities in critical thinking. Try to give the answers on such questions as:
- What is the reason for the differences?
- What can you get from such way of comparing?
- In what way are the similarities presented?
In this, by answering these questions you can create a compare/contrast essay.
When you get more or less concrete idea of writing a compare/contrast essay, it is time to think about the topics for writing.
For example, you may compare the book and the film that is created on this book:
- Series of Harry Potter adventures;
- I Know what You Did Last Summer;
- War of the Worlds.
